Heavy lifting isn’t enough for athletes.
It’s absolutely KEY for athletes to transfer that newfound strength into explosiveness.
But how do you train strength in a way that feeds explosiveness?
Simple…
Move down the force-velocity curve.
If you don’t know, the force-velocity curve is the relationship between force and velocity.
As you move down, the amount of force goes down as velocity goes up.
And my FAVORITE way to move down the force-velocity curve is with accommodating resistance.
If you don’t know, accommodating resistance is performing a lift with bands or chains.
And accommodating resistance forces the athlete to accelerate through the FULL range of motion of a movement.
Why is this important?
Because whenever you jump or sprint, you accelerate through the full range of motion.
Whereas on a squat, you decelerate as you reach lockout.
In fewer words...
Bands FORCE the athlete to continue accelerating by adding tension towards the end range of the movement.
THIS is my favorite way to transfer strength to speed + power.
